MBS& Innovation Lab

Innovation, Product Design

Melbourne Business School needed a partner to design and drive a repeatable model for creating new and innovative revenue-generating ideas focused on the future of work and learning.

They had established MBS&, their innovation lab, with the mission of being: “A catalyst for trailblazers to solve the biggest learning problems and launch innovations that redefine how curious learners and organizations grow.”

A beta incubator program would be the initial vehicle for achieving this mission, testing the model through a series of new ventures.

Problem

Problem

MBS& needed support to define processes with their team, upskill and expand their capabilities, build confidence across the organization, and lay the foundation for the program to succeed.

As a school backed by business for business, MBS were in a unique position to create a different approach to learning innovation that sits outside traditional structures.

From research to prototyping

From research to prototyping

A series of research activities were planned with a focus on gathering customer and market perspectives, with robust data synthesis to ensure ventures could be executed and were aligned to MBS& strategic objectives.

After ideation, we brought a few creative solutions to life through a series of prototyping methods to draw out critical user and stakeholder insights.

Low-fidelity prototyping

Low-fidelity prototyping

Low-fidelity is to ensure a level of visual understanding in test participants without compromising time, cost, and effort on early-stage ideas that may not move forward into development.

Mid-fidelity prototyping

Mid-fidelity prototyping

Mid-fidelity prototypes bring the product to life in a way that helps test participants critically evaluate the product's function and value proposition, while stopping shy of high investment in a fully functional design prototype to allow for agile design iterations to be made.

Skills Match – Context

Skills Match – Context

As organizations and individuals settle into permanent realities of remote/hybrid work, new challenges in the way people learn and connect arise.

Individuals are experiencing forms of siloed digital fatigue, and are keen to revive a social, human element in these experiences. Research indicates the most memorable and impactful learning experiences are face-to-face, or at least facilitated by a person instead of a recorded video.

Organizations recognize the critical importance of a learning culture in driving performance, engagement, and overall success—but lack the tools to bring one to life.

Skills Match – The Solution

Skills Match – The Solution

Skills Match brings instant visibility and accessibility to expertise across an organization. It puts peer-to-peer development in the hands of all employees eager to upskill or share their talent.

Skills Match deconstructs barriers to skills connection by matching individuals who have opted in seeking to upskill with those who have opted in to share their knowledge.

Organizations recognize the critical importance of a learning culture for employee engagement, growth and development, but have struggled with the realities of a decentralized workforce.

Skills Match presents an opportunity to return humanness to both work and learning, at scale.
